Lob hairstyles may not be new — they’ve been the millennial style of choice for a couple of years now — but the ‘cool-girl hair’ that flatters all face shapes isn’t going anywhere. The lob (short for long bob) first hit the radar in 2016 when it seemed like almost every one of our favourite stars had taken their hair shoulder length. Since then, the look has become one of the most popular hairstyles of the decade. But just because the high-impact cut can be seen being worn by nearly every celebrity on their Instagram feed doesn’t mean you can’t make the lob unique to you as it’s one with plenty of room for different looks and styles. Hairstylist and Director of Next International salons on the Gold Coast, Mitchell Parks, explains why it’s set to still be the hottest ‘do in town this year and why going for the shoulder-sweeping chop has never been easier.
It’s The Style That Just Keeps On Giving
“Over recent years, an awareness of fashion trends has been on the rise among clients and when they come into the salon they want to recreate a look from London or Paris Fashion Week, Parks said. “We’re also continuing to see 70s and 80s styles influence strongly and these can be given a modern update by switching up the texture of a lob with longer lengths and shorter layers.”
Why The Lob Is Hot This Season
Not only does Parks say that the lob is “the perfect style for summer,” but he also thinks the chic look will maintain its on-trend status and won’t be going out of fashion any time soon. When it comes to his clients in Next International’s 3 Gold Coast salons, Parks has seen that they like to update their style for the warmer weather and that a “lob is ideal for this as it will give the client a striking new look that is an easy alternative to shorter hair, allowing you to put it up for going to the gym or whenever you don’t feel like having it down”.
How To Make It Yours
“The possibilities are endless with a lob,” he said, adding that because it allows enough length to accommodate different textures it’s a style that is “extremely versatile”.
Creating The Look Without The Cut
If you are after that chic but effortless ‘I woke up like this’ hair without the commitment of a lob cut just yet, Parks says it is possible. “While getting texture with hair that is all one length is more difficult, there are products that you can use to create the edginess of a choppy cut.” He likes to use Kérastase Paris Matérialiste All-Over Thickening Spray to instantly give it easy-to-manage volume and texture.
The classic cuts that remain in vogue year after year are soft, effortless-looking hairstyles, ideal for laid-back looks or a fashion-forward vibe. Regardless of whether you are after beach-chic edgy or want to opt for glamourously sleek and straight, Next International can work with you to achieve the perfect lob to suit your individual face shape, hair length and lifestyle.
